26th: We wrote to the Chief Executive to ask whether NG required its personnel to wear seat belts as required by the law. Our letter is here.


23rd. The Inquiry ended. Jonathan Milner's Closing Submissions for CAPRI may be read here. The Secretary of State is not expecetd to announce his decision until late autumn.


14th: Professor Sibson told the Inquiry that National's Grid approach to safety methodology was 'entirely arbitrary and artificial'. His statement can be read here.


13th: Public Inquiry started at Corse & Staunton Village Hall.


8th: Mark Harper, MP, issued a press release expressing his hope that Inspector would reject NG's appeal. You can read it here.

28th: CAPRI announces that with its last three fund raising events - a Classic Rock Night and an Auction of Promises at Corse and Staunton Village Hall and, with the Tirley WI, a splendid Vintage Tea Party at the Old Vicarage in Tirley, it has reached its Fighting Fund target of £35,000.

9th: Another gas pipeline tragedy in the US, in the Texas Panhandle. Two people killed.


8th: Sadly another fatal gas pipeline explosion, at Cleburne near Dallas in Texas. See here

13th: The Planning Inspectorate released copies of correspondence received from the public. 139 letters - all individually written (a tremendous response!)

10th: Public Meeting called by CAPRI at Eldersfield Lawn School (Corse Lawn) with Mark Harper, MP. For an account of what happened, click here.


February

26th: NG announces that they intend to lodge an appeal. CAPRI announces that it will fight the appeal!


2nd: Tewkesbury Borough Council met to decide National Grid's application. The application was rejected unanimously, 16-0.


January

27th: CAPRI Newsletter issued.


26th: The Planning Officer recommends that the Council should approve the application, but he accepts that it is in conflict with Development Policies and believes that it should be referred to the Secretary of State to be 'called in'. 2009

December

21st: CAPRI responded to TBC's request for comments on the additional information submitted by NG. A copy of our letter to TBC can be read by clicking here.


11th: TBC asked statutory consultees and CAPRI for their views on the additional information provided by NG on 8th December.


8th: NG submitted further revisions and clarifications to their application.


November

2nd: We issued a challenge to NG to sell back the 23 acres of extra land they intend to take for use during the construction of the PRI to the original owner immediately the PRI is complete. They declined to comment. (See Gloucestershire Echo article here)


October

19th: BBC1 broadcast a programme on CAPRI as part of the Inside Out series.


September

29th: CAPRI wrote to the Secretary of State to object to NG's application for confirmation of a Compulsory Purchase Order for land at Flat Farm. For a map of the area NG intend to acquire, click here. To read our letter, click here.


7th: The Campaign to Protect Rural England - CPRE - has written to TBC heavily criticising the application and recommending refusal. You can read their letter by clicking here


4th: In response to NG's modifications, CAPRI wrote a second letter of objection to Tewkesbury Borough Council. You can read it by clicking here.


August

24th: NG issued a Compulsory Purchase Order in respect of the land to the east of Flat Farm. The CPO does not come into effect until it is confirmed by the Secretary of State.


3rd:  Tewkesbury Borough Council have asked statutory consultees and the public for their views on the additional information supplied by NG. CAPRI has a copy of these additional documents - some three lever arch files - and is considering them. (Our comments can now be read by clicking here).


May

4th Tewkesbury Borough Council validated the application.


2008

22nd December NG lodged a planning application with Tewkesbury Borough Council to build a PRI on land to the east of Flat Farm.

9th October: Site visit by local Planning Offivers and CAPRI

early October  Briefing meetings held with local Parish Councils. 45 Councillors attend.

5 September     CAPRI wrote to NG to express outrage at misrepresentations by NG. The letter can be read here.

28 August NG held a 'consultation' meeting - at the height of the holiday period - for residents of  Corse and Staunton at their Village Hall on proposals for new PRI. Local schools resumed in September.

19 August    Fourth 'consultation' meeting held by NG with local Planning Officers and CAPRI - to discuss the decision announced by NG the previous day. CAPRI delegation withdraws in order to take instructions from the CAPRI Committee

18 August    NG issued Fact Sheet 7 giving their chosen sites: either the appeal site or land east of Flat Farm

January       National Grid started search of more than 100 sq miles, as required by the Inspectors
