On Tuesday 2nd February, the Planning Committee of Tewkesbury Borough Council decided to refuse planning permission to National Grid to build a pressure reduction installation in open countryside at Flat Farm, Tirley.

CAPRI is delighted by this decision.

By accepting the strong arguments made by 2 Members of Parliament, 12 local parish councils, CAPRI and 986 private individuals – the largest response ever to a public consultation by this Council - Tewkesbury Borough Council has shown itself to be sensitive to the views of its residents and the needs of the environment.

The proposed installation would have been an industrial development in a tranquil rural location. It is clearly the wrong site, and we are pleased that TBC has recognised this.

The Corse site (the 'appeal site') is coloured BLUE.
The Tirley site ('present application site', or 'Flat Farm' site) as proposed by NG in December 2008 is coloured WHITE.
The land coloured PURPLE is land which in July 2009 NG proposed to take for landscaping.

NG issued in September 2009 a Compulsory Purchase Order in respect of the land coloured RED, PURPLE and WHITE.
